At BPS we define learning as a process that leads to a sustained and demonstrable consolidation or extension of conceptual understanding, competencies and character. These types of learning interact and form the ‘triple helix’, the DNA of the curriculum.
The whole program at our school balances the development of concepts, skills and character. Guided inquiry, collaboration and communication are the approaches to teaching and learning that require learners to engage in higher level thinking and problem solving as well as subject competences.
The BPS curriculum is built on rich varied experiences in a safe, supportive and loving environment that encourages social emotional growth and enhances development of cognitive, perceptual and physical skills of the learner.
CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
Beacon Private School’s vision is committed to enhancing the intellectual and personal development of its learners, equipping them with the passion for inquiry-based learning, ensuring academic excellence and preparing active responsible global citizens.
BPS utilizes the AERO curriculum in grades 1-10. BPS also incorporates the “Common Ground Collaborate” through our elementary program which is an added structure that works to balance the development of the concepts, skills, and character. AERO curriculum aligns with BPS’s mission by maintaining an international mindset through the inquiry-based lens. Being an established and vetted curriculum, AERO does well to prepare learners for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program which learners sit in year 11 and 12.
In the subjects taught in Arabic, BPS adopts the Ministry of Education national standards in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
COMMON GROUND COLLABORATIVE
- We can learn how to learn, and have a right to do so
- Common learning cultures need to construct common meaning through a common learning language
- Learning is personal as well as a social activity
- Learning is both cognitive and emotional
- Authentic contexts allow for meaningful transfer of learning
International Baccalaureate (IB)
BPS believes in the strong alignment between the Common Ground Collaborative (CGC) approach and the International Baccalaureate (IB) learner profile attributes. These attributes, closely linked to the IB Approaches to Teaching and Learning (ATL) framework, encompass intentional strategies, skills, and attitudes that are crucial for both academic and personal achievement.
